Has PhD in Electrical Engineering with focus on wireless communication. Dereje is also an Associate Professor at Addis Ababa University. Dereje has led a number of national and international projects in the area of information and communication technology, and assumed multiple administrative responsibilities, a recent of which is the Director for Academic Affairs in AAU. He has also taught and supervise graduate students in the area of telecommunication networks and data science.
